Bridges and structures like them are so interesting because of the triumph of engineering the lightest, most efficient way of solving a 3 dimensional problem. Gold, like steel, in a larger structure has economic and physical limitations. By designing jewelry that takes advantage of CAD/CAM technology we are able to create miniature structures that use material strength and weight to their fullest advantage. The engineering also becomes the focus of the design aesthetically. The lines and junctions of lines can be both physically efficient and beautiful in their simplicity and harmony.
